Ingredients
1 lb ground chicken
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 whole fresh jalapeños, finely chopped (seeds removed)
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 whole hamburger buns
Lettuce leaves
Additional sliced jalapeños and cheese for topping (optional)
BBQ sauce for drizzling
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeños, breadcrumbs, green onions, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
Place patties on the grill and cook for 6-7 minutes on the first side.
Flip the patties and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with an extra slice of cheddar cheese to melt.
Remove patties from the grill and let them rest for at least 3 minutes.
Assemble burgers on buns with lettuce and a generous drizzle of BBQ sauce.
Notes
Ensure you remove seeds from the jalapeños if you prefer a milder heat. Resting the chicken burgers is essential for keeping them juicy. Always check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure food safety.
